STMicroelectronics launches new STM32H7 product line

ST's latest STM32H7A3, STM32H7B3 and STM32H7B0 Value Series microcontrollers (MCUs) have 280MHz Arm® Cortex®-M7 processing performance, high storage capacity and energy-saving technologies, and are suitable for designing next-generation smart product devices.

The power consumption of the new MCU is kept at a low level. The entry-level product uses a cost-effective 64-pin QFP package with improved integration and real-time performance. It can handle advanced functions such as feature-rich user interfaces, natural language interaction, and RF networks. Network and artificial intelligence (AI).

The new product strengthens support for embedded graphics processing. For example, up to 1.4MB of RAM can support 24-bit color advanced user interfaces up to HVGA resolution, eliminating the need for external SRAM, which can reduce development costs.

Higher energy efficiency and enhanced DSP capabilities allow voice and audio processing applications to efficiently handle audio front-end and output generation tasks.

For applications that require more advanced communication connectivity technology, the new MCU's CPU performance and flash memory capacity can handle evolving RF communication protocols. The 4.57mm x 4.37mm wafer-level chip-scale package (WLCSP) option simplifies the integration of microcontrollers in wireless modules.

With the popularization of AI in embedded devices, the new STM32H7 MCUs have the energy efficiency required for machine learning applications and the performance required to support next-generation neural networks.

For IoT applications that focus on data security, the new products integrate state-of-the-art network security protection features, including secure boot / root of trust and hardware password / hash algorithm accelerators. The new Instant Decryption (OTFDEC) function extends the scope of protection to external serial memory, enabling real-time decryption of encrypted content and protecting software code in external memory.

The new MCU is equipped with an embedded secure installation service. Users can order standard products from anywhere in the world, and then hand the encrypted firmware to a partner manufacturer for installation. No leaks will occur at any stage. After the product hardware verification and firmware secure installation are completed, the root of trust mechanism will support all secure firmware services, including firmware field updates.

Dual-source domains allow designers the flexibility to manage power, and voltage-regulation technology enables optimal energy efficiency in run and stop modes. The on-chip SMPS power supply helps reduce bill of materials (BOM) costs and powers MCU internal circuits and external components. In the stop mode, the SMPS power is turned on and the entire contents of the RAM are retained. The chip operating current is 32µA. The standby current is only 4µA.

The new STM32H7's high-performance products have rich digital communication interfaces and up to two eight-wire SPI external memory interfaces. There is also an RGB interface connected to the XGA display, a Chrom-ART Accelerator ™ that replaces the CPU for 2D graphics, and optimizes non-rectangular The display supports Chrom-GRC ™, and a hardware JPEG codec.

The STM32 development ecosystem includes the STM32H7B3I-EVAL dedicated evaluation board, the STM32H7B3I-DK exploration kit, and the NUCLEO-H7A3ZI-Q Nucleo-144 development board. The STM32CubeH7 software package has several application and demo routines and related source code, including a graphical solution based on TouchGFX ™ technology. Users can also take advantage of the Motor Control Development Kit, AI Application Development Tools and the STM32Trust Cyber Security Ecosystem.
